about

DON'T ASK ME HOW I AM

Don't ask me how I am (four times)

Everyone is asking me every time we meet.
Why don't they shut up? Why do they have to speak?
Their dishonest greeting demands a deceit.
I can't bite my tongue or turn the other cheek.

Don't ask me how I am.
You know that I know you don't give a damn.
Don't ask me if I'm all right.
Even if you mean it it's a challenge to a fight.

Don't expect 'cause you won't get the standard lie,
Or if you say hello my response will be goodbye.
If you want to be friendly drop the sham
As it's better than enquiring as to how I am.

Don't ask me how I am....

It's inappropriate and deeply intrusive.
Highly offensive and subtly abusive.
Aggravating repetition drives me to extremes
And my only reply is in primal screams.

Don't ask me how I am....

In every strata of society
Is that mantra of stupidity.
One cause of human emnity
is that social convention of hypocrisy.

Don't ask me how I am....

Don't ask me how I am....(Twice)
Don't ask me - Don't ask - Don't
